The short version: Liquid Courage is a celebratory combination of military history and drinking. This site features alcoholic drinks that embody important moments in military history. Each blog entry is a drink, how to make it, and the skinny on happened in that war or battle.

Um….what?

The slightly longer version: Liquid Courage began as a peculiar topic of Tuesday night conversation among friends drinking bourbon. Its four authors suspect, without any factual basis for this suspicion, that most great ideas have similar origins.

Drinking and military history are robust, character-building pursuits, and this site is (we feel) a novel combination of the two. Here you will find beverages of various strength and nature, representing pivotal moments in military history. The drink’s ingredients, its method of preparation and consumption, or both, depict what happened and who it happened to. Usually, it happened to the French. Some of these drinks are tweaks of well-known tipples, while others we made up in our kitchen. We also provide a sketch of the background history, so you know to whom you should raise your glass. Usually, it isn’t the French.

We encourage you to try (most of) them all, read the backgrounds, leave a comment and let us know what you think. A rating system is provided as a handy reference, although individuals of merit and moxie know that there is no substitute for experience.

We hope you enjoy this physical manifestation of our efforts at drinking our way through military history.
